| Lily Bulb Export |
 |
|
 |
We have exported lily bulbs worldwide in other years, however this season (2007) we are NOT exporting lily bulbs due to time pressures with our New Zealand lilies operation and beach front tourist accommodation . Check back some other time if you live outside New Zealand and wish to obtain some of our lily bulbs.
You may find the following links useful or those at the bottom of this page.
If you would like the prices in your local currency please
let us know and we can add this currency to the website.
The following information will be relevant when we start exporting lily bulbs again.
Export orders for the Northern Hemisphere need to be placed before mid-March to
ensure a full selection of varieties, as these need to be conditioned before
shipping to ensure reliable sprouting in their first Northern Hemisphere summer.
Bulb orders are usually shipped in May or early June by air freight. This timing should
allow sufficent time in the Northern Hemisphere for the lily bulbs to grow and
flower in their first season.
EXPORT COSTS
All overseas customers will receive a detailed invoice (including all export costs)
in their own currency.
If the costs are not agreeable to you you may cancel the order without
obligation.
Overseas customers do not have to pay our GST tax.
The additional costs for export orders are:
Inspection Certificate NZ $33.00 per order ($19 US, 11 pounds UK)
Inspection fees NZ $1.50 per lily bulb ( 85c US, 50p UK)
Air freight approximately NZ $1.70 per lily bulb ( 98c US, 60p UK), less for bigger
orders.
Here is an example of the cost of an order of 40 lily bulbs.
Cost of 40 Lily Bulbs say...................NZ$200
Inspection fees ($1.50 per bulb).........NZ$ 60
Inspection certificate ($33 per order)..NZ$ 33
Approximate air freight (at cost).........NZ$ 68
Total (NZ dollars).............................NZ$361
Approximate cost in US currency (@ 58c=$1NZ) =$209 US
Approximate cost in UK currency (@ 35p=$1NZ) = 126 pounds
Larger orders will be even better value for money as only one inspection certificate is required per order and the freight per bulb is less (see below).
Export orders are charged to your credit card in two stages- firstly in May or
June when they are being packed, the order is charged except for the freight
costs. Then after the order is sent the freight is charged.
Only the actual cost of freight will be charged. The freight estimate above is
calculated on an order where the bulbs average 50grams (2 ounces). If the bulbs
are larger the cost will be slightly greater, but then you will be receiving
larger bulbs. For larger orders (above 10 kg) the freight cost per bulb reduces
to half of this amount.
Again we stress that we will e-mail you once you have placed your lily order
with the total cost of
the order in your own currency. If you are not satisfied with this cost you
can cancel your order without obligation.
We accept Visa, BankCard and MasterCard, credit cards are by far the easiest
and least expensive method of payment from overseas.
ADVANTAGES OF SPRING PLANTING FOR NORTHERN
HEMISPHERE CUSTOMERS Ordering bulbs from the Southern
Hemisphere to plant in the Northern Hemisphere enables freshly dug bulbs to be
spring planted. These bulbs should start growing immediately and avoid some
of the problems associated with planting locally purchased bulbs.
It is widely accepted that lily bulbs do not enjoy being dug, the reason being
there is always some damage to the roots and bulbs during digging. This can
lead to fungal infections at the site of the damage. The best way to prevent
this is for the bulbs to start growing shortly after digging.
Unfortunately, this is not usually possible. Bulbs are normally dug in the
fall (autumn) and spend their next few months either sitting in the cold
ground (often under less than perfect conditions), cold-stored, awaiting spring
planting, or worst of all on the shelves of a garden store at room temperature.(
which is a perfect environment for fungi to grow).
Now, Northern Hemisphere customers can overcome this by ordering bulbs from us.
Since the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are opposite to the Northern
Hemisphere, bulbs here are dug in May (our autumn) and sent out shortly
after. Therefore, when planted in the Northern Hemisphere they should start
growing almost immediately and should flower (July or August) in their
first northern summer.
Over the last few years, many Northern Hemisphere cut-flower lily bulb producers have set up subsidiaries in New Zealand in order to take advantage of this reduced time between digging and the onset of new growth.
At "Lilies In Bloom" we take the greatest possible care to avoid damage to our bulbs. We use the best harvesting equipment available, and the bulbs are then carefully washed and individually inspected to export standards before being hand packaged for dispatch. This ensures your bulbs are in the best possible condition when they reach you, ready to be planted. |
