LILY BULBS
Lily bulbs grow larger each year and also multiply, producing up to 30 bulblets
in a season and yielding 2 or 3 times more flowers for each year of growth.
They can be divided to gradually fill your gardens with colour and perfume.
Lilies can be either planted out in the garden or grown as pot plants, with
the shorter varieties being best for pots as they are less likely to blow over.
Good drainage is the one essential; lilies are tolerant of most other things.
LILY (LILIUM) VARIETIES
The lily varieties that we sell can be divided into four main groups each with
slightly different characteristics.
ASIATIC-generally non-scented.
Flowering early.
LA (LONGIFLORUM /ASIATIC) HYBRID - large flowered, vigorous, disease resistant
hybrids. Flowering early.
ORIENTALS (AURATUMS) -perfumed. Late flowering.
TRUMPETS - perfumed. Mid-flowering.
FLOWERING TIME The flowering time can be more accurately determined from the week number listed
with most varieties (for example "w 12"). This indicates the week that flowering
of that variety usually starts here in Golden Bay, where:-
w1= Early Summer or late spring (1st week in November)
w8 = Mid-Summer.
FLOWER POSITION Most descriptions include a letter indicating the postion of the blooms these are: u.-up facing flowers.
o.-out-facing flowers.
p.-shorter varieties bred for growing in pots.
"The lilies I got from you last year were beautiful - got several prizes at different shows I entered, and of course I tell people where the bulbs and plants came from." O.T. Westport, N.Z.
